And PlayStation 4 game owners can upgrade free of charge
PS5 owners can now finally experience Cyberpunk 2077 as it was meant to be played, with the next gen version of the game now available to download in the PlayStation Store.
Including enhanced 4K graphics, two different play modes, faster loading times, an improved framerate and some nice new immersive features that utilise the PS5 controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.
As part of the graphic overhaul, PS5 gamers can now choose from Performance mode for 60 fps or Ray-Tracing mode which adds…ray-tracing whilst locking the framerate to 30fps.
The folks at CD Projekt Red have also been working on the audio-side of the game which now supports Sony’s Tempest 3D AudioTech engine whether you’re using headphones or speakers (although we think headphones work best for this effect). The PS5 DualSense controller microphone is also utilised for audio whenever there’s a holocall or message coming in.
The next gen upgrade now supports the PS5’s Activity Cards, giving you handy pointers on what to explore next or what you’re currently up to.
In addition to the next-gen enhancements and PlayStation 5-exclusive features, the latest version of the game also includes new gameplay tweaks and quality of life changes. Some of the features implemented include improved AI and crowd reactions, design changes to the UI, map usage and the open world, new interactions with potential love interests, as well as improved Fixer and Gig gameplay and rewards.
We’ve yet to track them down but there is some new free additional content too including additional rentable apartments for V, plus new weapons and gear to get your hands on.
The best thing is, if you already own Cyberpunk 2077 for PlayStation 4 (disc or digital), you can transfer your game save to the PlayStation 5 version and continue your game. All current owners of the PlayStation 4 version are entitled to a next-gen upgrade for no extra cost which is good news for those that didn’t have the best initial experience of the game when it first launched.
For those that haven’t yet played Cyberpunk 2077, the dedicated PlayStation 5 version is available in the PlayStation Store along with a free trial version available until March 15, giving you 5 hours of full access to the game. If you end up purchasing the full version, you can carry over your saved progress from the demo.
