Update to article: We may still be in for a longer wait. HMV have just recently updated their website with a new release date of 6th August 2012, quashing the hopes that we’d be seeing the highly anticipated album in April. There’s no official announcement yet and the only tenuous link we have to the 6th of August date is that’s the date Doctor Dré (similar name, different person), premiered with hip hop show Yo! MTV Raps way back in 1988 - not really something to go on at all.
If a UK music retailer’s website is anything to go by we could finally be seeing Dr Dre’s long-awaited Detox album on April 16th 2012.
The follow up to 1999’s Platinum-smash 2001, Detox has been delayed several times with the anticipation and hype surrounding the release over the last eleven years comparable to that of Guns n Roses’ Chinese Democracy.
Over on HMV.com there is a listing for the CD with a release date of 16/04/2012 plus the option to pre-order. Now retailer release dates can never be a cast iron guarantee of an album launch date but it’s the most info we’ve had from any retailer on this for some time. When you add in the fact that Dr Dre and Snoop are headlining Coachella festival in California on April 15 and it all starts to sound a bit more like a reality - would make sense to release your album the day after performing at a major festival. We’ll have to wait until we hear official confirmation from the man himself but in the meantime here’s hoping we see Detox appear next month.
Dre has released two singles from the album so far - Kush and I Need a Doctor. Fingers crossed for April.
