Last week Samsung announced its iPhone 6 Plus rival, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, or the S6 edge+ if we’re to call it by it’s real name. It’s due for launch in September and here’s everything you need to know.
- You get a much bigger screen
Yes this is the obvious one but it’s an important consideration for those of you that like your Netflix or spend a lot of time on email on your phone. The S6 edge+ screen is 25% larger than the standard S6 edge, sporting a 5.7” screen vs. 5.1”.
- The screen resolution is the same as the S6 Edge
You’re getting more screen space, but it’s the same resolution on both versions. So yeah, that means the S6 edge squeezes in more pixels per inch but both screens so look amazing and incredibly sharp.
- It’s got a beautiful curved display
The clue is in the name and it’s what grabbed Samsung all those headlines when it launched the original S6 edge. The S6 edge+ comes with the same curved screen at the edges, which gives it it’s unique look.
- You get a bad boy Exynos Octa-Core processor
This is the same processor that powers the original edge – 64-bit, top end and plenty of processing power.
- More RAM
You get 3GB of RAM on the standard S6 edge. The edge+ tops this with an extra 1GB, taking it up to 4GB.
- Storage – two sizes available
Looks like Samsung have sacked off the 128GB variant as the edge+ is only available in 32GB and 64GB. You’d be hard pushed to fill 128GB with all the cloud back-up and streaming services available now though.
- It has a 16MP camera at the back and a 5MP selfie-cam on the front
Plenty of megapixels for all those high-res home movies.
- More Power!
Bigger screen, more power required – Samsung have stuck a larger battery into the edge+ with 3000mAh of power vs 2600mAh on the edge. Should last you all day if you don’t go to crazy with the HD gaming.
- Wireless Charging
It’s a gimmick for some but others, it’s the future of all gadgets – wire free charging! Just stick the S6 edge+ onto the Wireless Charging Pad to charge it up in just 2 hours. That’s an improvement on the original edge.
10. Fingerprint sensor
Once you start using fingerprint sensors on the S6, S6 edge, edge+ or even the iPhone, you’ll never want to have to enter another password again.
11. Share video in real-time
Move over pre-recorded footage, you’re out of date! The S6 edge+ lets you livestream straight from the phone using the Live Broadcast function. Just be careful you know when you’ve got it turned on - no one wants to see your morning routine.
12. It’s available in two colours (initially)
Like Black? Like Gold? You’re in luck - the S6 edge+ will be launching in both of these colours. Whether we see further colour variants appear will largely depend on how well the edge+ performs.
