This is the droid we’re looking for.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens isn’t even released yet but already children (and adults) around the world are desperate to get their hands on their own BB-8 droid. Well Sphero, the company behind ‘Ollie’ and other interactive robotic toys are going to make it happen with the release of the must-have toy for Christmas 2015.

Just like Sphero itself, BB-8 will be controlled via an iPhone or Android smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth and also reacts to your voice commands.

The BB-8 toy is a bit smaller than the real deal but he can run for about an hour, with a 30m range and can get up to a top speed of 5mph - perfect for outrunning those bumbling Stormtroopers.

It’s at the higher-end of the scale when it comes to pricing for a Star Wars toy, coming in at around £150/$149 but don’t expect that to deter the brawls in the toy stores for the last one on the shelf come Christmas time.

What do you think? Is BB-8 going on your Christmas list? And will he be allowed to roam free or be kept boxed up in your loft until he’s worth ££££ in the year 2065?
